Abstract
The article relates on the experience of the author in dealing with high risk situations, acute distress and chronic psychiatric needs of the evacuees of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in a community resident center in Monroe, Louisiana. She had observed the severe mental health effects of the disaster on those with mental illness or prior traumas.
