- Abstract
This study aims to identify and analyze the discourses on civics and democracy that were broadcast in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, in the first half of the 20th century, based on the periodicals Boletim de Educação, organized by the State Statistics and Advertising department, and the Educational Periodical of the Primary Education Directorate of Paraíba (Revista do Ensino), articulating with the educational proposals for the period in question and highlighting the role of women within the context of production and dissemination of the Paraíba press between the years 1936 and 1937. Initially, we will briefly discuss the use of documentary sources in the History of Education and its importance in the theoretical and methodological paths chosen by researchers. From this, we will explain about the female performance in the official press and in political discussions in Paraíba. Subsequently, we will analyze the sources already mentioned, indicating the main points of discussion about civism and democracy - also structured in a bibliographic search in the previous one. In view of the observed aspects, it is possible to conclude that female writing provided historical contributions to the social, educational and political scenario in Paraíba, aiming to achieve a less unequal society, promoting equity between genders and advancing educational practices.
