- Abstract
This article explores the divide between traditional and modern architecture, noting that traditional/classical architecture is often overlooked in favor of more avant-garde styles. The author argues that while modern architecture may be exciting, it faces challenges in terms of practicality and the risk of ignoring proven methods. The article emphasizes the importance of preserving old buildings not only for their historical value but also because they are often considered beautiful. It discusses the postmodernist movement as a reaction to ahistorical modern architecture in the 1980s and highlights the benefits of reconnecting with history. The article also examines the work of architect Thomas A. Kligerman, who blends traditional and modern elements in his designs to create a dialogue between tradition and modernity. It concludes by suggesting that blending tradition and modernity in architecture may be a new trend.
