The article discusses the author's personal journey of discovering and understanding the influence of Chinese culture on India. The author reflects on their lack of interest in Chinese history and culture until they began researching for their novel. They explore the historical connection between India and China through maritime trade and the city of Canton. The article also highlights the impact of the Sino-Indian war of 1962 on Indian attitudes towards China, including the scapegoating of the Chinese-Indian community. The author concludes by emphasizing the need to examine and challenge Western-centric perspectives in order to better understand the world.
