- Title
Rethinking Food Security for the Twenty-First Century.
- Authors
Falcon, Walter P.; Naylor, Rosamond L.
- Abstract
The article examines why concerns about food security have diminished during the 21st century. The authors discuss the characteristics of food security to show its potential connections to other components of global security, civil conflict and democratization. They also argue that improved germplasm involving transgenesis, genomics and a focus on crops produced and consumed by those who are food insecure, are among the best food-security investments for institutions such as the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research.
