- Abstract
The notion of "the neighbor" has been claimed to be the conceptual foundation in Søren Kierkegaard's Works of Love of his political thought and program. In this paper, it is claimed that such a reading is only possible within a classical Greek framework, according to which no difference of kind applies between ethics and politics. Instead, if the ethical is not to be deprived of its distinctive character, its transcendental and Christian conceptual weight, then it should be read in the light of a modern framework, the coordinates of which could be pragmatism and formalism.
