- Abstract
The article discusses syllabification of bisyllabic nonwords. Syllables play some role in the short-term memorization of bisyllabic stimuli. To use short-term memory errors as a tool for studying syllabification in a more efficient manner, it would be necessary to somehow boost the number of errors involving syllables and decrease the number of errors involving sub-syllabic units. Although the syllables role in short-term memory for English nonwords may be small, it is detectable. In contrast, several studies have shown that syllables do not play a role in tasks in which native speakers of English monitor for certain fragments.
