- Abstract
Using the liber traditionum of the priory of Hesdin, France, which contains over 500 informal documents related to the social history of the region, the article reconstructs aspects of everyday life and the development of a collective identity in the priory community during the High Middle Ages. The research findings are presented chronologically, covering the years between 1094 and the 1180s. Relations between the priory and the surrounding broader society and gifts and donations to the priory from wealthy, secular benefactors receive special attention.
