- Abstract
A recent meta-analysis published in the journal Obesity Surgery examined the impact of bariatric surgery on cognitive function in patients with obesity. The study found that bariatric surgery led to significant improvements in memory, attention, and executive function scores. The effect sizes of these improvements were also evaluated, with memory recognition scores showing a large effect at 12 weeks post-surgery and a medium to large effect at 12 months post-surgery. These findings suggest that bariatric surgery may have a meaningful impact on cognitive function in individuals with obesity. The study provides important evidence for the management of obesity and its associated cognitive impairments.
