- Abstract
This document is a response to a study titled "Type 2 Diabetes Remission After Bariatric Surgery and Its Impact on Healthcare Costs." The authors of the response thank Drs. Jacob and Varughese for their comments and acknowledge the potential short-term progression of diabetic retinopathy following bariatric surgery, regardless of type 2 diabetes remission. They highlight the importance of post-operative screening for sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy, especially in patients with pre-existing disease. The authors suggest that further prospective studies are needed to analyze risk factors and the duration of risks related to sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy in this patient population. The document also includes information about funding, ethics, conflicts of interest, and the publisher's neutrality.
