Mennonite-Ojibwe Relations In Manitoba: Memories and Reflections.
- Authors
Roulette, Roger; Simmons, Margaret
- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Aboriginal-Mennonite relations in Manitoba. It presents some of the experiences of the Mennonites that went to the Ojibwe community in Pauingassi, through the accounts given by Charlie George Owen, a distinguished elder from Pauingassi. It states that the missionaries were welcomed in the place because of the work that they would be doing and they were supported by the elders in the community. It notes that the while the Ojibwe people have adopted the Mennonite ways such as their prayers and their church, the natives have not forgotten their traditional cultural ways.
