From transmission to transformation: Teacher learning in English for speakers of other languages.
- Abstract
The article presents a study which explores the learning experiences of English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) teachers in Great Britain. The significance of collaborative discussion among teachers and reading from the language classroom research literature in a continuing professional development (CPD) initiative is highlighted. An overview of the CPD programme is provided which integrates reflective, collaborative and research induction components of transformative teacher education. The analyses of critical learning episodes (CLE) by teachers from the classrooms are examined.
