- Authors
Breeding, Christopher; Rockwell, Kimberley M.
- Abstract
The article describes a black diamond having natural deep violet color examined at the Carlsbad laboratory of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in California. It is said that naturally colored black diamonds usually have many dark inclusions making the stones appear black. The infrared absorption spectrum of the examined stone indicated that it was type Ia. Its fluorescence was yellow to both long and short wave ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
