An essay is presented on the depiction of monarchy in the poem "The Raree Show," by John Clare. His concerns and perceptions of monarchy were said to be expressed in the plight of the poor, circumstance of royal pageantry and charades of political farce, among others. It examines the topical innuendo and misogynous character in "Don Juan, a Poem." Clare has reportedly declared royal allegiance in the final stanza of "The Raree Show."
