- Abstract
The article examines the role of biotechnology in meeting the food security needs of the world's malnourished populations. It notes that the second green revolution highlights the need to improve the quality and productivity of food through a mix of social and technological approaches aimed at meeting the needs of small scale farmers in Asia, Africa and other regions. The benefits of biotechnology-derived foods are discussed.
