- Title
Current options in the management of opioid dependence: A review.
- Authors
Bouchard, Gary J.; Faistl, Kenneth W.; Monaco, Joseph L.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the management of opioid addiction. It states that the physician assistants (Pas) must be aware on the significance of diagnosis and management of narcotic abuse and dependence but they do not need specialization in addiction medicine to care for opioid-addicted patients. It says that the opioid addiction treatment programs provided the most regulated treatment in medicine. Moreover, the use of methadone was controlled by the Narcotic Addict Treatment Act (NATA) of 1974.
