- Abstract
The article focuses on the Meandu Mine in Queensland owned and developed by Rio Tinto Coal Australia (RTCA). The mine was initially developed in 1983 to supply thermal coal to the Tarong Power Station (TPS). It is specifically located in the South Burnett region of the province and sits in the Tarong Basin. Its mineable coal seams are the Ace, the King and the Upper Queen seam. The Meandu mine was initially offered by RTCA as a potential power source when the Queensland recognized the need for additional power in the mid-1970s.
