- Title
The Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Prison.
- Abstract
The article presents an editorial discussing the British government's policy on prisons and criminal justice administration. The British government approved £1.2 billion to create 10,500 new prison places by 2014. The author argues that the policy of incarcerating habitual offenders has no demonstrable impact on crime rates. The author believes that a policy which addressed the causes of crime, rather than punitive action toward criminals, would be more socially and economically beneficial.
