- Title
Poets in practice.
- Authors
Parr, Michelann; Campbell, Terry
- Abstract
The article discusses the advantages associated with the use of poetry as a teaching and learning tool. Simply knowing about poetry and the theory behind it is not enough. Teachers and student need to engage in active poetry writing. They must become poets in practice and in doing so, see themselves as practicing poets. Learning poetry, whatever forms, in the classroom offers several benefits. Among others, it encourages language and word play. It also connects reading and writing. It frees students to write creatively. To engage students in poetry writing, teachers must make learning fun and interesting.
