- Abstract
The article "Journal Club" presents a study on the transcatheter repair of secondary mitral insufficiency in patients with heart failure. The study compared the results of transcatheter repair with solely medication therapy over a period of five years. The results showed that transcatheter repair led to a lower rate of hospital admissions due to heart failure and a lower overall mortality. Another study examined thromboprophylaxis after a fracture and compared the effects of low molecular weight heparin with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). The results showed that thromboprophylaxis with ASA was not inferior and was associated with a low incidence of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. A pilot study investigated neoadjuvant therapy with cemiplimab in patients with grade II-IV squamous cell carcinomas and showed a high percentage of pathological complete remission. In a multicenter phase 2 study, patients with resectable cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in stage II-IV received cemiplimab, and 51% of patients showed a complete response to the treatment.
