- Abstract
The article reports on a study which suggests that hydrocarbons that sedimentary basins released created a part of a climatic feedback mechanism that could have exacerbated global warming during the Eocene epoch. It highlights the greater influence that hydrates has on a warming world because of ocean temperatures that are higher enough to melt methane-bearing gas hydrates. It also notes that ocean acidification resulting from methane oxidization can contribute to global warming.
