- Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to evaluate Turkish Airlines' relative financial productivity in the international airline industry between 2017-2021. Methodology: In this study, the Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) approach was used to assess fluctuations in financial productivity during the period 2017-2021. Technical Efficiency Change (TED) and Technological Efficiency Change (TD) scores were determined, and Total Factor Productivity Change (TFPC) values were obtained, evaluating each Decision-Making Unit (DMU) in terms of efficiency. Findings: Turkish Airlines ranked 11th in the MPI ranking during the period 2017-2021. Turkish Airlines achieved an average TED score greater than 1 during the analysis period, indicating that it has been technically efficient and successful in improving its ability to catch up with an effective production line. Therefore, Turkish Airlines has managed to prevent resource waste by implementing appropriate managerial activities in its decision-making mechanism during the Covid crisis. Originality: The key differences in this study from others include the determination of the efficiency of 19 airline companies, including Turkish Airlines, using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) based MPI. The original contribution of this study is to measure the relative financial productivity of Turkish Airlines within the context of 19 global leading airline companies.
