- Abstract
In order to expand knowledge about centipedes in urban environments of the Iberian Peninsula, a study in a renaturalised area in the city of Madrid was conducted. A total of 21 centipede species are registered in the surroundings of the Lagunas de Ambroz, resulting in the highest number of species ever recorded in a single area in the Iberian Peninsula. A Stigmatogaster species closely related to S. neglecta is reported for the first time in the Iberian Peninsula. Ecological data and figures on its morphology are provided. Geophilus osquidatum, Stigmatogaster excavata, Lamyctes (Lamyctes) emarginatus and Lithobius microps are first recorded in the Meseta Central of the Iberian Peninsula. Centipede biodiversity and the potential presence of S. neglecta in the Iberian Peninsula are discussed in depth. Additionally, a compilation of centipede records in urban and suburban environments of the Iberian Peninsula is provided. Results stress the importance to preserve the environment of the Lagunas de Ambroz, which is currently endangered by mining activities and urban expansion.
