- Abstract
The heat stress is an important problem related to decreased animal welfare in dairy cows. Among the regions of Brazil, the Amazon stands out in its climatic characteristics with high levels of temperature and atmospheric humidity from an equatorial climate, in this context, heat stress is one of the factors that impair the breeding, productivity, physiological parameters and behavior of animals. This review article aims to contextualize the regional characteristics with dairy production in the Amazon, highlighting heat stress, its effects and thermal comfort strategies. The use of measures such as genetic improvement, adoption of silvopastoral system production and implementation of technologies are effective ways to improve climatic conditions for animals. However, it is emphasized the importance of conducting specific studies to determine the parameters of thermal comfort of dairy cows in the Amazon.
