- Authors
KIRBY, LISA A.
- Abstract
An essay is presented examining the depiction of working class men on television, particularly in relation to the U.S. reality television show "Deadliest Catch." The social implications of the show's depiction of working class men as idealized, hard-working cultural icons are examined. Contrast is made between the reality television treatment of masculinity and that seen in television comedy. Discussion is also provided analyzing which thematic elements make the show particularly popular.
