- Authors
GENZ, STÉPHANIE
- Abstract
The article discusses representations of women in popular culture, focusing on feminist and postfeminist ideals in the late 20th and early 21st century. The character Bridget Jones, the heroine of two novels and motion picture adaptations, is analyzed in this context as an apt depiction of some of the conflicting impulses and social pressures commonly experienced by women. The television shows "Ally McBeal" and "Sex in the City" are also referenced, insofar as they deal with issues such as female heterosexuality and empowerment.
