- Abstract
The article interprets the death of Jesus Christ in John 12:20-36 as the fulfillment of the judgment of and victory over Satan, the ruler of this world. Topics include the significance of the passage in John 12:31-32, presupposition of the ancient myth of cosmic combat, the impact of the apocalyptic traditions on the Gospel's interpretation of the death of Christ, and a comparison between Jewish and Christian apocalyptic texts.
