- Abstract
The article discusses the distinction of the dementia syndrome in the elderly. It explains the derivation of dementia from the Latin words and notes that 50% to 56% of people with dementia are diagnosed with Alzheimer's and the rest are diagnosed with vascular dementia. It explores the most common dementia syndromes in the elderly including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and mixed dementia as well as lewy body dementia and frontotemporal dementia. INSET: Little guidance on prevention.
