Abstract
The article discusses assertive community treatment (ACT), a form of intensive case management to helping the mentally ill cope with life on the outside. A team of professionals work with severely mental ill patients. ACT reduced the number of hospitalizations and the length of hospital stays. It explores the potential of ACT in a poor rural area with few and underfunded services and limited job opportunities.
