- Abstract
This document is an editorial from the Journal of Marine Science & Engineering, discussing the importance of novel oil-water separation technologies in marine environmental science. The editorial highlights the urgent need for efficient oil-water separation techniques to mitigate the devastating effects of oil spills on marine life and habitats. It also emphasizes the significance of these technologies in preserving marine biodiversity and maintaining the health of our oceans. The editorial introduces a special issue dedicated to showcasing the latest advancements and research breakthroughs in oil-water separation technologies within marine environments. It provides a brief overview of five published articles in the special issue, each focusing on different aspects of oil-water separation technology. The articles explore topics such as electric-field-enhanced oil-water separation, vortex finder depth in mini-hydrocyclones, efficiency enhancement of mini hydrocyclones, demulsification of water-in-oil emulsions, and pre-treatment core tubes for treating produced water in heavy oilfields. The editorial concludes by emphasizing the collective contribution of these articles towards sustainable marine resource management and the importance of technological advancements in addressing the challenges posed by oil spills and pollution in marine ecosystems.
