- Abstract
The article discusses a study that was done into the factors that influence breastfeeding among women living in Singapore. It was found that mothers who were given prenatal and postnatal training and support were more likely to breastfeed their children six months after birth. The World Health Organization suggests that mothers give their newborn infants only breast milk until the age of six months but to use a combination of formula and breast milk for an additional 24 months. The socioeconomic backgrounds of the pregnant women used in the study is provided and the authors conclude that the cost of health care is linked to the utilization of breast feeding.
