- Abstract
The article discusses historical records regarding macaws native to the Caribbean island of Jamaica. It presents information about the appearance of a scarlet macaw in the 1765 watercolor painting "Elegancies of Jamaica" by the Reverend John Lindsay, mentions biological specimens and fossil records of macaws found in Jamaica, and describes the classification of macaws in the Caribbean by ornithologists during the nineteenth century. Other topics include the trading of bird species throughout Latin America and a detailed description of the differences regarding the physical appearance of blue, yellow-naped, and scarlet macaws.
