- Abstract
The article investigates whether beds have footboards during the Tudor period in Great Britain. Topics include examples of domestic furniture from early modern England such as the headboard from Henry VIII's marriage bed at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow, Scotland, the findings of an investigation that the concept of a carved and exposed bed footboard existed in English visual culture as early as 12th century and the challenge facing historians of Tudor material culture.
