- Abstract
The article examines how legislative efforts failed in combating gang violence in comparison to the successful local community-based initiatives in Massachusetts. It outlines the introduction on gang members' lackadaisical attitude towards prison sentences and the justice system. It explores the historical background of gang violence across the region, as well as the status of the laws implemented by the federal government. It explains the purpose and substance of the Gang Abatement and Prevention Act of 2007 and the Act to Reduce Gang Violence.
