- Abstract
A study published in the International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology examined the impact of using both electronic and conventional cigarettes on the diagnosis and surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). The study found that individuals who used both types of cigarettes had a higher risk of CRS or functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) compared to those who only used one type. However, there was no significant difference in the risk of polyposis between the two groups. The study suggests that this effect may be due to various factors such as bacterial, immune cell, genetic, and mucociliary changes. However, the study has limitations and further research is needed to fully understand the effects of using both types of cigarettes on sinonasal disease.
