- Abstract
The article discusses the ideological and political supporting of U.S. President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society. It highlights the social changes and an unusually large Democratic majority which set the stage for the Great Society's massive expansion of government into all areas of life. It notes the role of Galbraithianism and Marxism in justifying the displacement of antiwar and pro-civil rights enthusiasm which gives rise to heightened support for zero-risk regulations.
