- Abstract
"Queer Career: Sexuality and Work in Modern America" by Margot Canaday is a well-researched book that explores the experiences of gay and lesbian workers in the United States from the post-World War II period to the 1990s. The author uses personal testimonies and wider analysis to examine how these workers navigated the labor market, the risks they faced, and the impact of the gay liberation movement and the AIDS epidemic. The book also discusses the struggles for workplace protections and the role of unions and worker associations. While the article critiques Canaday's argument that progress for LGBTQ+ workers primarily came from grassroots efforts within corporations, it praises the book for its comprehensive and insightful account of the workplace experiences of gay and lesbian workers.
