- Title
CLIO'S MUSING ON TEACHING THE WORLD IN AN AMERICAN DREAM.
- Authors
Lane, James W.
- Abstract
The article presents the author's insights regarding the study and teaching of social studies to the world which is fixated upon the uniqueness and glory of the U.S. It states that the modification of curriculum and instructional time has shifted social studies courses and content into a slicker presentation of facts that are essential for survival in the modern world. It adds that teachers are expected to teach Americentric courses, but they can refocus their students' attention into strains of continuity from past and far distant cultures rather than an American context. Furthermore, it says that social studies teachers should make their students examine how people live, have lived, and made decisions that influenced other persons and events.
