The article discusses the Partito Comunista Italiano (PCI), or the Italian Communist Party, focusing on the period 1972-1979. It examines party politics, political activism, and political violence in this period, suggesting that the PCI missed political opportunities. Several politicians are considered including PCI leaders Palmiro Togliatti, Luigi Longo, and Enrico Berlinguer.
