- Abstract
The article presents the keynote address of Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the Public Theater, delivered at the Holding Up the Mirror symposium of the Theatre Library Association at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts on April 22, 2011. Topics of the speech include an incident in which one person in the audience responded to a line delivered by an actress during a performance of the play "Measure for Measure," democracy and playwright William Shakespeare.
