- Abstract
Over several decades, several Brazilian intellectuals have dedicated themselves to studies on popular traditions. For a long time, the work of these intellectuals helped to idealize popular production, immobilizing it in a temporality and spatial space that were moved to the world in which they were introduced, always associated with the idea of the past. However, some changes that occurred in the middle of the 20th century modified the meanings attributed to popular culture, which became significant and not only from the perspective of tradition, but other elements that associate them with new times. The aim of this article is to reflect, from the analysis of a set of documents, such a newspapers and government documents on the historicity of the meanings attributed to popular culture in the 1970s, and to analyze how an object created predominantly in the idea of the past (of immobility and permanence) that is displayed as a modern temporality.
