- Abstract
The objective was to verify the nutritional status by anthropometry, and central adiposity of schoolchildren in the municipal schools of Mogi Guaçu, SP, according to gender and age. It was evaluated 261 students between seven and nine years old. Data were obtained by anthropometric evaluation, determining weight, stature and waist circumference. For the nutritional diagnosis, it was used data expressed in scores z of E/I and of IMC/I, with referential base of the World Health Organization of 2007. 18 To verify the central adiposity, it was used the measure of the waist circumference, appraised according to the distribution of the percentis proposed by McCarthy et al. 8 172 (65.9%) children were classified as eutrophic; 41 (15.7%) presented overweight, 32 (12.3%) obesity, 14 (5.4%) serious obesity, 1 (0.4%) thinness and 1 (0.4%) accentuated thinness. Overweight prevailed in children of the feminine gender and obesity and serious obesity in the masculine gender. Regarding the age, the overweight prevailed in the students with nine years old, while the obesity and serious obesity were observed in the children with eight years. All the students presented appropriate stature. As for the waist circumference, it was observed a significant difference (p<0.05) in the boys with nine years. This research has evidenced expressive occurrence of weight excess in the appraised students and central adiposity in boys with nine years old.
