This essay offers information on the struggles faced by upper Ahtna people to protect their way of life and their access to traditional fishery in modern Alaska. Topics covered include the contributions of upper Ahtna Indians such as Katie John and Doris Charles, other Ahtna people and the Alaska Native community in the survival of their right to fish at a traditional fishing site, and the complex legal and political issues surrounding 35 years of litigation in various forms.
