- Title
Sequencing of the cattle genome heralds 'a revolution in breeding'.
- Abstract
The article reports on the study that explored the biology and evolution in cattle breeding after sequencing of the complete cattle genome. The study found that cattle genome contains over 22,000 genes and is considered as the first mammalian livestock animal genome. Researcher Shirley Ellis at the Institute for Animal Health suggests that the findings enable researchers to know which to base future studies into the genetic diversity present in different cattle breed and populations.
