using a solar enlarger... without burning down the building.

- Abstract
The article focuses on the photographic event that occurred in Rochester, New York, in 2002, in which solar energy was used to print an enlarged image. It was the first time when an image was printed on a hand-sensitized paper using a solar enlarger. The experiment was held under photograph conservators from the Advanced Residency Program (ARP) for Photograph Conservation at the photography museum and archive, George Eastman House. The photographic solar enlarger was introduced in the 1850s. It required artistic retouching on the final image. For this enlarger, the direct rays of the sun were reflected through a 10-inch diameter condensing lens that focused the light through a small glass. The article says that its results were not perfect, but good enough to identify solar enlargements.
