- Abstract
Value conflict is one of the most important characteristics of marginality of a social group. Social isolation is directly associated with disregard of values important for society: what should be significant and valuable for every citizen becomes unacceptable and alien to a marginal. To reveal the character of the value conflict in Lithuania, it is necessary to draw attention to specific groups of the lowest class of population, distinguishing their value priorities and peculiarities of their attitude towards their native country. In this article, attempt is made to discuss the way of living of the lowest social layer, the value attitudes of the outsiders of society and the factors determining formation of those attitudes. Results of the investigation of the two groups of society outsiders -- the poor (beggars, homeless) and former prisoners -- are presented. Analysis of these data has revealed the hopeless situation of weak members of society, which determines their values: longing for the Saviour, accentuation of God and religion, uncertainty of their aims and plans.
