- Abstract
Twelve dogs with cutaneous wounds presented to the clinic were randomly divided into two groups of six animals each to evaluate fibrin - chitosan biocasings for cutaneous wound healing. The biocasings were evaluated based on haematological, biochemical and histological studies conducted at different periods of observation. Haematological and Biochemical parameters showed transient initial significant changes which were due to stress in control group and due to additional presence of Fibrin - Chitosan foreign material in treated group. The sequence of events of Histological healing viz, inflammatory reaction, fibro vascular proliferation and epithelialization were more evident in fibrin - chitosan treated wounds. Fibrin - chitosan biocasings were adherent to wound surface producing good haemostatic effect. It was concluded that use of fibrin - chitosan composite biocasings for cutaneous wound healing was effective without any adverse effects.
