- Authors
Anton, Ana M.
- Abstract
The anatomy of the leaves of species of Axonopus P. Beauv., on the basis of transverse sections of the lamina, is reported. These species are: A. leptostachyus (Fluegge) Hitchc., A. fissifolius (Raddi) Kuhlm., A. siccus (Nees) Kuhlm., A. scoparius (Fluegge) Kuhlm., A. laxiflorus (Trin,) Chase and A. pressus (Nees) Parodi. They belong to 5 different infrageneric taxa and exhibit particular features which allow the recognition of 6 types of anatomical structures. Furthermore, some speculations are made on the mechanism of leaf-folding in the species considered.
