- Abstract
The author discusses the factors that need to be considered in the application of effective dose (E) to medical exposures. According to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), E was created for use in the assessment of risks in general terms for radiation protection purposes. The author explains how E is derived. Among the suggestions for application of E to medical exposures include measured dose quantities and as a generic indicator associated with the risk of health detriment.
