- Abstract
The article explores whether or not health care consumers become dissatisfied with the quality of medical care as they use managed care plans more and more. The researchers used telephone surveys of residents in Chicago, Illinois and Houston, Texas to determine how satisfied patients were with medical services. It was found that patients in Houston who used a health maintenance organization (HMO) health plan had low satisfaction as did patients who used preferred provider organizations (PPOs). The conclusion reached is that service providers should avoid patient satisfaction surveys that encompass a broad geographical area.
